Thought I would transfer my plans for tattoos from my myspace blog to here. Enjoy.
Tattoo Plans:
L. Hand: Lotus and FATE on knuckles.
R. Hand: Spiderweb, probably a couple of rings, plus [see right arm]
L. Arm: Rampant lion on bicept, my dad's dagger and heart design on forearm and maybe full sleeve, I think I am going to have the buddhist wheel on my elbow. celtic band on forearm.
R. Arm: Well, I already have the web and WHH [grandfather's intials], dragon circling down my arm with head ending on the back of my hand plus something i'm toying with on my shoulder.
L. Chest: Plans for a really sweet heart with an arrow through it and a ribbon over the heart for a name... but it says "ME" instead, lol. That is [hopefully] getting done on valentines day. Then I don't know... there is lots of space, and more as I keep lifting, muahaha!
R. Chest: I would like to do some sort of japanese script with my sword lineage on it, like a sort of scroll design. plus I am thinking of getting SWORDSMAN put on it like a military name tape type deal.
Abdomen: no plans of yet... gotta keep doing crunches, lol.
Gonna get a cool memorial for grandpa and grandma on my right side... the lone sailor with his birth/death dates and a touching phrase and my grandmother from her wedding photo.
Back: Full back japanese style mural to Kwan Yin, buddhist goddess of mercy. I have a pic of the way I would like it done, just need to alter it to be kwan yin and perhaps the dragon on the lower half too... I do have a really big back.
Back of neck: a norse sigil for protection or the matayoshi symbol, which is really just the symbol for the emperor of japan, again a tribute to my swordsmanship. or perhaps a sitting buddha?
Neck:
left side: Sanskrit word for hope.
right side: undecided.
Butt: Have a nice day... circa The Ladies Man. [I am either kidding or I will have someone I don't like do it.]
L. Leg: undecided
R. Leg: undecided
Misc or undecided locations:
Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism - a Conch Shell, a Lotus [previously mentioned on the back of left hand], a Wheel, a Parasol (Umbrella), an Endless Knot, a pair of Golden Fishes, a Banner Proclaiming Victory, and a Treasure Vase.

Wolf Shirt Friday: Warrior Post
I figure what's more appropriate on the Fridays that I am bedecked in wolf garb than to talk about warrior things. So in that spirit I have a couple of... well they aren't quotes... more like statements? Well you'll see.
This is an affirmation that I like to recite some mornings, I found it in one of my old samurai books, I am currently looking for the source information and will edit with where this is from as soon as I can locate the book:
The Boundless Heart Of A Warrior:
In this I seek each Day
To defend that which others deem impossible
To conquer what others cannot.
A warrior does not fight for vengeance or glory or fame.
He fights because he has a boundless heart
So that others never know of pain.
And this is something that I wrote while musing about the spirit of combat and how some are able to best others of great skill with ease. What sets them apart? Spirit:
What wins battles are the ghosts of those who came before
Ancestor spirits, guiding our hands and beating courage through our hearts.
Well that's warrior spirit Friday kids!

NaNoWriMo
I'm starting a novel about an actual barbarian in a corporate office, the goal is to have a 50,000 word (crappy) novel in 30 days. Start date is November 1st, and while I can't start writing, I can have an outline and brainstorming done before then... so rest assured I will be hitting the ground running. And vlogging at that point I hope. :D
Keep track of the hilarity here:

Or My Online Progress Report!
[PS: I Don't think either of these will be live between now and the 1st of November]
[PPS: Check in at http://bit.ly/Barbq (my writer's homepage)]

Who Is Paying Attention To You?
Something happened yesterday to really bring my attention to the question: My CEO started following me on twitter.
"OMZ!" He exclaimed unto himself as he semi-panic'd. What are the possible reasons for this? Is he just following all the BBY kids? Is it because of me saying on teh twitter that he can beat up everyone else's CEO? Is this a fluke? Is this a good thing?
Of course this is a good thing! BJD has an awesome sense of humor and while I may say ridic crap all the time, but there is some good stuff mixed in there that's worthwhile. I will be a little more aware of the fact that @bbyceo is now on my six, so will just make sure I put my really mental stuff in the side feed. ;)
I remain confident that we'll high-five and maybe enact a scene some day about him beating up other CEOs. Here's to hoping I earn a righteous high fiver!

Musashi
I just finished reading a book I've read at least a hundred times in my life to date. I will most likely read it another hundred times before I am done and I'll probably never fully understand it. The concepts that the author brushed onto paper hundreds of years ago in a cave along the hillside of Japan still has profound lessons for martial artists today.
In the Book of Five Rings, Miyamoto Musashi lays out the philosophy that lead him to win over 60 duels in his life but he doesn't do so in the same way a teacher today would do. A modern martial arts manual would read: "Do step one, see the picture? Look like that then do step two." But in a way that truly speaks to the warrior poet in me Musashi says stand in a natural way, hold your sword like this, contemplate the meaning of the next 3 books, harness your spirit and you will be unbeatable!
He didn't use marketing tools, he wasn't trying to expand his readership or his school's membership. Musashi lived in caves or in hillside wilderness for most of his life, comfort and riches were not things he cared for. He didn't write for royalties or for fame, he was actually dying at the point he finished his great work. No, he wanted his students to understand... to know The Way. To know that it doesn't matter if you have perfect technique, if you do not have mind, body and spirit in focus you will fail and die.
He lived as I wish to live, unfettered, unadorned and he simply was. When he fought, he did so with his whole heart and devoted his full attention to the moment. He didn't concern himself with life and death, wining or losing, only with this moment. When he decided to paint, he did so in the same manner and created beautiful works of art. He brought that same focus to the moment to the arts of sculpting, poetry, carpentry and flower arranging.
In my own life, I sincerely hope I never need to fight another duel... but I do want to have that same focus in the moment that Musashi used in so many other arts. I have a lot going on right now, and the focus of a warrior is definately something that will come in handy.

What a weekend
I didn't want to blog about this before I did my Tour De Fat piece, but I still can't find the pages I had written earlier [I have an actual journal now for rough blog content] and I don't want to give up on that yet. So we'll cover that later, for now I need to chat with you about this last weekend. One of the things that struck me is how good it felt to be wearing my new skinny jeans, made me feel rad to be wearing something I couldn't pull off a few months earlier and be able to get away with it. [I hope] I feel like my fitness goals are moving forward and it's a real validation for me!
True serendipity. The kind that leaves you feeling like whatever it was just had to happen that way. Pretty much sums up the weekend I just had. On Friday I spent some fun time out at the birthday shindig of a friend-of-a-friend. I was able to cut loose, enjoy my time, make some bad decisions and get some qual time in with friends and the opposite gender.
Saturday I got my nerd on... like full scale on. I purchased some used books from my local store on 50th and Penn, normally not too nerdy. However, when you purchase books at a 60% Tolkien ratio you really show your true colors. Then I got some nerdy shirts from Ragstock at the MOA and met my sister and her husband for some shopping and eats in Dinkytown. [I'm glad they have a bike rack in their trunk just for me!] We played D&D and then headed back to their place because I agreed to help them with some household improvements again.
Sunday was the best ever! I helped my sister Theresa and her husband, Sam with their home improvement efforts. We hauled their enormous old entertainment center up a huge flight of stairs, I got to show a feat of strength by keeping the whole thing up on the steps while the doors were prepped, we got that out to the garage and they have a new, non-1990's tv stand. Then I got to help take down some way overgrown bushes with a sawz all. [Relax eco nerds, between the two households in attendance there are between 200 and 1.7 Million plants and trees still. They had to go.]
Mission accomplished right? End of story? Nope, after I got the bicycle out and ran a 30 mile ride from St. Paul Park to Rosemount, MN. [Map] That was sweet, especially with all those hills, dirt road hills and construction site hills, but my bike [Gertrude] and I were totally up to it. I made it to my cousin's wedding shower. [That is a separate, smaller post.]
